First off, our predictions by Staff Lead Writer Tommy J. Schwerm
Hello all! First, I must inform you that I’m not a writer.
I’m also not a baseball analyst, particularly knowledgeable, or smart. But I will say this: I like saying that I am a staff writer at the premiere baseball website online, and in order to keep that true I’m going to write some stuff about the 2025 baseball season. Enjoy.

I’m going to start by looking at the Fangraphs projected standings and see if there’s anything that jumps out at me as too high or too low. Unfortunately, there is a team that I think will outperform their projection, and that team is the Milwaukee Brewers. As a Cubs fan, I’m really sick of the Brewers. I’m sick of them being good, and I really thought that when we stole Craig Counsell we’d steal their 89 win mojo. The opposite happened in 2024, where the Brewers won 93 games and the boys in blue finished tied for a distant second, ten games back. As much as I hate to admit it, the Brewers know what they’re doing. They always tinker enough, get just enough offensive production out of random utility guys, find some great pitching that you never would have expected, and get the clutch hits to win games (I’m looking at you, Kirk Nieuwenhuis). So Fangraphs says 81 wins for the Brewers, Schwermgraphs says 89 and another first place finish in the central.
The Cubs
Speaking of my team; they’ll underperform. They’ll win somewhere between 80 and 85 games and will just miss out on the third wild card. There are a few ways this might happen; their offense might be as good as Zips and PECOTA think, but maybe Steele and Imanaga get hurt and poof they’re allowing 5 runs a game. Or perhaps the pitching will be OK but the offense will not be as strong as the rosy projections, and they’ll have a bunch of nice 2-3 WAR players all around, but no one anchoring the lineup. Speaking of anchoring the lineup? Something bad is going to happen with Kyle Tucker. I don’t know if he’ll be hurt, inexplicably bad, or if an alien will abduct him and replace him with a poor-hitting simulacrum, but he’s not going to be as good as the Cubs want and need him to be. But you know what I think is actually most likely? The Cubs will be good, pretty good, and maybe even the best team in the Central! But they will perform poorly in close games, have poor clutch hitting, and end the season with 5 fewer wins than BaseRuns or 3rd-order winning percentage would suggest. This will give me the cold comfort of saying “ummm, actually the Cubs have outperformed the Brewers this year” as I watch Milwaukee yet again go to the playoffs while we sit home in October.
It’s a Disaster!
I hate to say it, but for me it must be the White Sox. Astonishingly their 63 win projection, which is the worse I can personally remember seeing, would represent a 22 game improvement on 2024. They didn’t get 22 games better. They will be bad. I’m sorry White Sox fans. 52 wins.
